FAQs

1. Are the BSc IMS and PG Diploma IMS courses recognized by Govt. of India?
  SMU is a bonafide university as per UGC and is free to conduct courses as per the UGC act. Hence all courses conducted by the university even deemed university under UGC / Ministry of HRD are recognized.
2. Are these courses approved by UGC?
  Any university if it has to start a course / program as per the UGC act, will have to notify it. Hence all courses including IT courses are deemed approved.
3. What is the difference between regular degree course and degree course through distance education?
  A regular degree program is conducted and run in a college / institution on a full time basis. A distance program is run on a flexible basis through authorized contact centers.
4. Are the students who pass degree through distance education eligible for Govt. jobs?
 

Those universities which are approved by DEC for conducting distance education programs are eligible for Govt. Jobs. SMU has already applied for the same and it is in the process.

5. Is this degree course recognized by other Universities for Post Graduation courses?
  The very fact that all programs are designed with strict criteria for eligibility which is standard across all universities, make them open for comparison across universities. SMU is no exception to this. After doing any degree program a person can do any PG degree program provided he or she meets the eligibility criteria for the specific course. E.g Degree in Literature is not allowed for a PG in computer science.
6. Can a BSc IMS pass out apply for PG in SMU or other Universities?
  YES. The student is eligible for any PG course in the IT field with SMU.
7. Is BSc IMS pass out eligible for H1B VISA?
  H1B is a work permit offered by the US government. For any clarification on this please refer to the US Govt. website on this. Till now no degree in the world give a person an automatic license to get the H1B visa.
8. Is BSc IMS pass out eligible for other courses offered by international universities?
  The credit and eligibility criteria vary from university to university, within or outside the country. This need to be checked with the concerned specific international university.
9. Are the degrees approved by AICTE?
  AICTE is not the authorized body for distance education programs offered by any university.
10.  What way IIHT – SMU learning centre different from other SMU centres?
  The program is unique and a joint effort by both SMU and IIHT and the LC has to meet the criteria set by both SMU and IIHT.
11. Can other SMU centres offer IMS courses?

12. Does SMU offer any placement guarantee or campus recruitment assistance for BSc IMS candidates?
  No. Placement assistance will be given by IIHT.
13. Who would issue the certificate / degree?
  SMU will be issuing the necessary certificates to successfully qualified students.
14. Do you have other franchises already conducting the same? If yes who and where?
  No.
15. Is there any other company/institute/organization already dealing in this course in India?
  No.
16. What are the other similar courses offered by other institutions/univ etc like NIIT etc.

17. Is there any license/permit/certification/authorization required from any govt. body or others? If yes, what and at what cost?
  As and when such is required, SMU will inform to IIHT.
18. What form of authorization or certificate or affiliation will you provide us?
  Once the LC is recognized as an authorized LC by SMU, they will be issued a certificate for the same.
19. What are the job prospects for these courses?
  In any industry, the job prospects are solely dependent on market demand. At present the demand is far too much for supply hence these courses are started by all progressive universities with synergies from professional companies and corporate of repute.
20. What are the prerequisites for admission to BSc IMS and PGD IMS?
  B. Sc. – IMS (Eligibility is 10+2 year of schooling.)
PG Dip – IMS (Graduate (10 + 2 + 3 years of schooling) or any graduate with +2 level of mathematics)

24. Is it mandatory that all the subjects of the semester must be completed within the semester itself?
  Yes. Any backlog should be cleared in the next semester.
25. What is the procedure for reappearing for examinations if some subjects are left out?
  The student is free to appear for examinations by paying the requisite fees. He or she can do so within the maximum time limit of the course. Else he may have to re-register for the course.
26. Should a candidate pass all the subjects of all semester within 3 / 1 year time?
  The standard duration of the B.Sc IMS course is three years, and the maximum duration is 6 years.
The standard duration of the PG Time course is 1 year, and the maximum duration is two years
